Ovunda Ihunwo is a distinguished academic and accomplished artist, an Associate Professor in the renowned Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the University of Port Harcourt. Armed with a Master's and Doctorate in Film Studies, he possesses deep expertise in the discipline's theoretical and practical dimensions.
Beyond academia, Ovunda Ihunwo is a versatile and gifted performer, excelling in acting, dancing, and singing. He finds immense fulfilment in mentoring and nurturing emerging talents in Theatre and Film, with a particular focus on acting, voice, and speech training.
Ovunda's contributions to the arts extend to the music industry, where he has released three inspiring gospel albums showcasing his creative range. As a director, he has achieved notable success with critically acclaimed stage productions, including Ola Rotimi's Hopes of the Living Dead, The Gods Are Not to Blame, Ovonramwen Nogbaisi, and Pedro Obaseki's Obaseki. He directed two landmark productions for Rivers State's Golden Jubilee celebrations: Miesoinumah Minimah's King Jaja of Opobo and Edward Imo's stage adaptation of Elechi Amadi's The Concubine.
His artistic excellence is equally evident in his contributions to Nollywood. Ovunda has appeared in numerous films and television series, with standout performances in Tamed, Three Hearts, The Evidence, Time Again, Not Mine, Mischievous Twins, Swapped Fate, Belema, Silence, The Minor, Golden Axe (Parts 1–3), Female Lion, Bottom of My Heart, Reflections, House of Abraham, Genesis, and more. He served as the National Vice President (South-South) of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and as Secretary of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (Port Harcourt Zone). His tireless dedication to advancing theatre and film earned him the prestigious Fellow of Theatre Arts (FTA) title.
